GEOFFREY
COMMUNITY REABLEMENT ASSISTANT,
RESPONSIVE SERVICES, BRIGHTON & HOVE

I can’t begin to tell you about all the training and support that I’ve had from the Trust to develop in my career.

My interest in phlebotomy inspired me to undertake training. I can now confidently take bloods and write up blood forms. There is a lot of training that goes into becoming a Phlebotomist and I have achieved this with Sussex Community.

Building my skills is good for me but also better for our patients – as they have fewer professionals who need to go into their home as one professional can provide a range of procedures and care treatments. This enables me and my team colleagues to build stronger relationships with the patients we care for.

Other training I’ve completed includes wound care, stoma, walking aids, caring for people at end of life, awareness of Sepsis and diabetes.

I’m currently completing my Care Certificate which my manager and team have been very supportive of. My future aspiration is to become an Occupational Therapy Technician by undertaking an apprenticeship available through Sussex Community.

I’m outgoing and I love people. My first job was a children’s animator when I lived in Kenya.

I started a group on Facebook to bring Kenyans living in Brighton together. Occasionally we have Kenyan barbecues which are open to everyone.

I have a young daughter and I love cooking – my team colleagues really rate my baking and they look forward to when I bring cakes in.
